As many might know, after Patagonia I intended to go North all the way through Chile, Bolivia and Peru. Well, there was a chance that I will take a detour, and so I decided to hitch a ride to Antarctica. So, if all goes according to plan, I will board the ice-strengthened vessel Ortelius tomorrow, and head to the frozen continent. Granted there are no mines over there for the foreseeable future due to the Antarctic treaty, even if there are certainly resources such as coal or oil, and a variety of metals. In lieu of that I will enjoy some other kind of natural resources … but rather the small and cute kind of it .. penguins, sea lions, and the bigger ones such as whales. I will also cross the Antarctic circle.. just 6 months after I crossed the Arctic one 🙂 Exciting!
